Support the Australian Golf Heritage SocietyRaising funds to care for and display Australia's golfing heritage |
The Australian Golf Heritage Society’s collection of golfing equipment, photographs and documents tell the story of golf in Australia. It consists of approximately 3,000 items of golfing heritage and history, and includes golf clubs, golf balls, bags, uniforms, pennants, trophies, green keeping equipment, photographs, books, archives, films, sound recordings, and more. The Society also maintains what is considered by many to be the premier golf research library in the country.
Our goal is to preserve these items for future generations of golf lovers and to display them for today's passionate golf fans. We previously mounted displays at our dedicated museum premises, have a point of representation at golf events such as the NSW and Australian Opens, record oral histories and provide research assistance. Our displays have been nominated for Museums & Galleries NSW Awards. In 2016, we completed the National Museum Standards Program.
The 2012 Significance Assessment - supported by the National Library of Australia’s grants program – and conducted by Significance International states that:
“The Australian Golf Heritage Society collection is significant for its association with professional golf in Australia, for its role in documenting the history, technicality, personality, and popular culture of the game generally, and for making this publicly accessible. The collection is primarily of historic significance, but is also socially significant to the many people who continue to make the sport the cornerstone of their lives – notably the amateur and professional members of the Society, distributed around Australia.”
Our future
We are raising funds to buy museum standard storage resources, upgrade our display cases and to digitise VHS tapes and film. Our immediate goal is to raise $10,000. In particular, time is running out to preserve video. If we don't act now, these images will be lost forever. Technology is changing and soon we will not have the equipment to view video tapes.
Help us by making a tax deductible donation today
This project is run in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation so our donors can receive tax deductions for donations of $2 or more. By donating now, you help preserve Australia's golf history for the future - $20 will digitise a video tape, $2,000 will buy a display case.
